RSG-ITALY YOUNG SYMPOSIUM

The RSG-Italy Young Symposium organised by RSG-Italy includes a roundtable (day 2 of the conference) and a session of flash talks (day 3).

RSG-ITALY - Round Table

Title: “50 Shades of Bioinformatics: a kaleidoscope of expertises”

Topic: The roundtable is centred around the multifaceted nature of bioinformatics by bringing together young researchers with diverse academic backgrounds, from system biology to omics data analysis and machine learning. The discussion aims to foster the shared aspects, unique diversities, and challenges of the various scientific careers and how they converged under the field of bioinformatics.

Panelists:

  • Lucas Moron Dalla Tor, Ph.D.
Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Parma
Dr. Lucas Moron Dalla Tor is a Research fellow (RTD-A) at the department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma (IT). His work as a bioinformatician is focused on "omic" data analysis and integration. In particular, he is part of an advanced diagnostics multi-centric project (INNOVA - funded by PNRR) where he handles data collection, harmonisation, and exchange with the other centers for the University of Parma. Moreover, Dr. Moron Dalla Tor works as support analyst for several research groups, employing a wide variety of analytic strategies (including machine learning) to study cancer’s genomics/chemogenomics, transcriptomics, and radiomics.

  • Laura Veschetti, Ph.D.
Infections and Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Division of Immunology, Transplantation and Infectious Diseases, San Raffaele Scientific Institute
Dr. Laura Veschetti is currently a Postdoctoral fellow at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, where she is involved in projects involving cutting-edge technologies such as shotgun metagenomics and long read sequencing to unravel microbe-host interaction in the context of cystic fibrosis. During her studies she carried out research activities in various clinical and research laboratories, which allowed her to develop expertise in various fields of biomedical research, among which microbiology and genetics are of particular importance.

  • Giada Fiandaca, Ph.D.
Laboratory of Computational Modeling, University of Trento
Dr. Giada Fiandaca is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology Department (CIBIO) of the University of Trento where she is working in the field of QSP mathematical modeling of mRNAbased products developed within the International Wellcome Leap project “R3: RNA Readiness and Response.” During her studies, she approached the field of mathematical biology and of mathematical modelling of complex systems, developing deterministic and stochastic models for the dynamic growth of tumor cells.

  • Yari Ciani, Ph.D.
Laboratory of Computational and Functional Oncology, University of Trento
Dr. Yari Ciani is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Cellular, Computational, and Integrative Biology (DCIBIO), University of Trento, in the Laboratory of Computational and Functional Oncology led by Prof. Demichelis. His work focuses on the analysis of plasma-derived DNA and RNA in the context of precision oncology. He is part of PRIME (PRostate cancer plasma Integrative Multi-modal Evaluation), a project funded by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC) and Cancer Research UK (CRUK) which aims to deliver a liquid biopsy-based clinically implementable test for advanced prostate cancer. Dr. Ciani is also a member of the FANTOM Consortium, dedicated to the comprehensive functional annotation of mammalian promoters, enhancers, and non-coding RNAs.

RSG-ITALY - Flash Talks

Presentation details: Each flash-talk will be limited to 5 minutes (maximum of 5 slides). Please make sure you stay within this time period. The next presenter should be immediately ready to start their presentation. At the end of all presentations, there will be 5 minutes allocated for Q&A.

To ensure that everything runs smoothly, each speaker should upload their presentation using the official conference form (shared by email) and also send a .pdf file with the presentation at least one day before the flash-talks to the RSG-Italy session chairs (email to iscb.rsg.italy@gmail.com).

Best Flash Talk Award at CIBB 2023: During the flash talk session, the audience will vote for the best speaker. The winner will be announced and awarded right after the Q&A session.
